Various Works

The Work Of The Church Collectively

The greatest work of the church is the Great Commission when Jesus said, " Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching to observe all that I  commanded you..."  (Matthew 28:19-20).

All members participate in this mission.

Edification is a work of the church to "stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another..." (Hebrews 10:24-25).  We are to teach and instruct each other through the study of God's word (1 Timothy 4:13).  We understand that members struggle with the trials and tribulations in this life and that it is the responsibility to "encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called 'Today', so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin" (Hebrews 3:13).

Benevolence is also a work of the church.  The collection on the first day of the week will help the poor saints among us (1 Corinthians 16:1).  Our giving is also to support the saints in other churches of Christ, worldwide, as they may have need (2 Corinthians 8:1-6, 9:1, 12; Romans 15:26-27).

The collection is also directly given to support evangelists within the body of the Lord's church (1 Corinthians 9:7, 11, 14).  The church "may assist those who are widows indeed" (1 Timothy 5:16).  Also, "The elders who rule well are to be considered of double honor [financial support], especially those who work hard at teaching and preaching" (1 Timothy 5:17).

The Work Of The Church Individually

We encourage each member to use their individual talents and gifts in the work of the church and service to others (Romans 12:4-8). We believe each individual member should be obedient to the great and foremost commandment, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind". And that "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39). When following this commandment we encourage each member to "Show yourself to be an example of good deeds" and to "Be careful to engage in good deeds," (Titus 2:7, 3:8). We do these good deeds as an example to the lost as well as those in the household of God (Galatians 6:10; 1 Timothy 6:17-19).
