Come Grow With Us!
Hello, my name is Richard Thetford and I am the evangelist working with the San Juan church of Christ here in Montrose, Colorado. On behalf of the members, I would like to invite you to seriously consider moving to beautiful Montrose, Colorado!
The San Juan church of Christ began with just 7 individuals (5 Christians), in May 2007. We decided to begin a new conservative, non-institutional, non-instrumental, non-denominational congregation in Montrose, Colorado because it is the second largest city on the western slope with about 20,000 people when you count the surrounding area. We are able to draw from other cities in the area such as Ridgway, Ouray, Olathe, Delta, and even as far as Gunnison (60 miles east).
This is a beautiful area with great climate conditions. Montrose has an elevation of 5,794 feet with mild winters and warm summers. The city has beautiful views of the majestic San Juan mountains. Our family lives in Ridgway, Colorado (population 750), which is about 22 miles from Montrose. The famous Colorado city of Ouray is located another 10 miles south of Ridgway. If you love the outdoors, you will love it here in western Colorado! There is an abundance of hunting, fishing, hiking, rafting, skiing, sledding, and numerous other things to do in this area.
However, what we really want is for some loving Christian families to consider moving to this beautiful part of the United States and help us grow a righteous, loving, well-grounded congregation of Christians who are devoted in their life and service to almighty God! Perhaps you are considering retiring and are looking for a small congregation to work with -- or perhaps you have a young family that you would like to raise in a small, friendly and beautiful setting. We just ask that you please seriously consider Montrose, Colorado.
If you want to do the Lord's work -- then this is the place for you! I try to go door knocking every week during the months of April through October and would welcome your help. On the average I am able to knock on approximately 50-75 doors per week, visiting with people, and giving them literature about the church. I am very hopeful that this year more Bible studies will be set up and that we will be able to grow spiritually and numerically. This is a beautiful area to raise a family and enjoy the great outdoors. We want to encourage you to please consider moving to Montrose, Colorado so that you can come grow with us!
Our congregation now has 18 individuals (17 Christians). We are averaging between 18-20 in attendance each week. We have 4 children between the ages of 10-14.
